Hertlin House rated as "Highly Recommended" by New York Magazine
Only retirement community on Long Island to earn this distinction

New York Magazine profiled 20 highly recommended retirement living options in its December 11, 2006 issue, and Hertlin House, an independent senior retirement community in Lake Ronkonkoma, was the sole Long Island community on their list. As reported in the magazine, the communities that made their list "are, by expert consensus, some of the best in New York."

"We are enormously pleased and proud to have been named to this prestigious list," noted Hertlin House Executive Director, Sharon Hamilton, "especially given their extensive research into each of the communities named."

New York Magazine canvassed geriatric care managers, watchdog groups, elderly advocates and government officials, and asked them to name the most highly respected programs around - places where they would go themselves should the need arise. They also did their own site visits before naming the Top 20 communities.

In its write-up on Hertlin House New York magazine describes it as, "a small and charming nonprofit facility where residents make the best use of the fourteen acre wooded property." The article goes on to mention some key features of the community and references the fact that "many residents move here to be close to family in Suffolk County."
